Dark Sky Event

An Evening of Stargazing Under Rappahannock's Dark Skies

When
Saturday, June 27, 2026 · 8:40 PM
Admission
Free
Join the Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority and the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection for a Dark Sky Event under some of the darkest, clearest skies in the region. Rappahannock County's rural setting, far from the light pollution of the cities, makes it an exceptional place to experience the night sky. The evening opens with two presentations: "Lunar Eclipse!" by Torney Van Acker of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, and "Exploring the Moon with a Telescope" by James Granahan of the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club. Afterward, all are invited to view the Moon, the planets, and other night-sky objects through telescopes set up on the pavilion lawn. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to help guests find objects and answer questions. The event is free and open to the public — just bring your curiosity and dress for an evening outdoors.
