The International Gold Cup brings top jump racing back to Great Meadow in The Plains each fall, one of the richest fixtures on the National Steeplechase Association's autumn calendar. The card is anchored by the International Gold Cup timber stakes over roughly 3½ miles and the Grade 2 David L. 'Zeke' Ferguson Memorial hurdle stakes at about 2⅛ miles, surrounded by maiden and allowance hurdle races, a steeplethon, and handicap events — typically eight races in all. Like its spring sibling the Virginia Gold Cup, it pairs serious racing with hunt-country tradition: tailgates along the rail, box seating, terrier races, and Jack Russell parades, all set against the Blue Ridge foothills at their autumn best. First race is around noon.
