Hill House Farm & Nursery is a family-run native plant nursery nestled at the southern base of Bessie Bell Mountain in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Founded and operated by Janet Davis, a Virginia Tech-trained horticulturist with nearly three decades of experience, the nursery grows and sells exclusively nursery-propagated native plants — never wild-collected — including perennials, ferns, shrubs, trees, vines, native grasses, sedges, rushes, and fruit-bearing species chosen for their aesthetic beauty, durability, and wildlife value.
Visitors can purchase plants during retail hours at the nursery's location on Clover Hill Lane in Woodville, or pre-order for scheduled pick-up. Ready-made plant packages — including several butterfly and pollinator garden bundles — are available at prices ranging from roughly $235 to $540 plus tax. Janet also offers landscape design, installation, and consultation services specializing in incorporating natives into existing landscapes, habitat creation, and ecological restoration projects.
Hill House also participates in plant sales, farmers markets, and other regional events throughout the Mid-Atlantic year-round. The nursery welcomes visitors to explore its meadows, stroll to the pond, and experience the native gardens — a living demonstration of the biodiversity that flourishes when native plants are cultivated thoughtfully. Year-round visits by appointment are available; the growing season is especially rewarding.
