Set on a 130-year-old farm just a mile west of downtown Culpeper, Mountain Run Winery is a quintessential family-operated farm winery that opened in 2016. The one-of-a-kind tasting room is housed in a converted 1950s corn crib with slatted walls that allow fresh air to flow freely through the space, while adjoining bays that once sheltered tractors and hay wagons add to the authentic agricultural character. With two additional rooms built into the haylofts of the main barn, guests can sip award-winning wines surrounded by over a century of farming history. Spread across 36 acres, the property features five acres of estate grapes alongside plantings of elderberries, blackberries, and beehives — all contributing to Mountain Run's impressive portfolio of craft beverages. In a given year, the winery produces around 18 wines, two hard ciders, four meads, and a dozen styles of beer, with standouts including its gold medal-winning Petit Manseng, crowd-pleasing Culpeper LOVE white blend, and top-selling Meritage red. Tasting flights allow visitors to sample any four pours from across the full lineup. Mountain Run is known for its vibrant events calendar, including the Sunday Sunset Sippers music series, Full Moon parties, an annual Volkswagen show, a Fall Crab Feast, and a popular Fall Harvest Festival drawing over a thousand guests each October. The venue is fully kid- and dog-friendly — complete with a playground — and hosts more than a dozen weddings annually along with private showers and celebrations.
