Compton Peak Trail

A roughly 2.4-mile round-trip hike from the Compton Gap parking area at Skyline Drive mile 10.4, following the Appalachian Trail up 0.8 mile to a four-way junction, then spur trails to two payoffs. The east spur reaches a rock outcrop viewpoint; the west spur leads to a striking columnar basalt formation.
