The county's history museum occupies the 1808 and 1823 jail buildings on Courthouse Square at 10 Ashby Street, one of the best-preserved old jails in Virginia, complete with original cells and the walled exercise/hanging yard used until 1896. Exhibits cover Native American Fauquier, the Revolution, the Civil War and Colonel John S. Mosby, plus local industry and toys.
